Second Floor Addition to Increase the Living Space of a 1950s Cape
Architect Brian A. Libby designed a new second floor plan to increase the living space of this Newburyport cape built during the 1950's. The new second floor plan includes 2 large bedrooms, a full bathroom, a laundry area, and a walk-in closet. To increase the headroom, RVC removed the entire existing roof structure, then rebuilt using a steeper pitched roof with front and rear dormers. New front entrance trim and first floor cedar wall shingles create a uniform "shingle style" appearance to blend the new with the old.
A few changes to the first floor were made to create a more open plan. The work was completed, and the home ready for re-occupancy, within a 10-12 week period.
