RVC's origins as a green builder began in the mid-1980's with the construction of a
Super-insulated Cape-style home. Since then, we have stayed current with emerging green building practices, integrating new generations of building materials and techniques into the construction of our custom-built homes. In 2006 we expanded our options for green construction by partnering with a high quality modular home company,
Epoch Homes.
What is Green Building?
The definition of “green” is far-reaching and can apply to a variety of approaches to building. Every consumer must choose the “shade of green” that best suits them. Building a home offers an unusual number of opportunities for living green — and opportunities to take steps that have a much bigger impact than simply doing less laundry or bringing a shopping bag to the grocery store.
Basic Benefits of a Green Home
While energy efficiency remains a major element of any green building project, occupants will also benefit from:
-
Increased indoor comfort levels.
- Improved indoor air quality (reduced exposure to mold, mildew and other indoor toxins).
- Reduced operating and maintenance costs.
- Increased resale value.
Green Rating Systems
While we work with the three rating systems — Energy star, LEED, and NAHB Green — we have found that the recently updated NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) Green Building program provides comprehensive, practical, and easily implemented guidelines for most of our customers' homebuilding and remodeling projects.

How Are Modular Homes “Green”?
The modular building process is recognized as inherently greener than traditional stick-built construction, on many levels:
- Modular construction makes the best use of materials and increases manufacturing efficiencies.
- Constant quality control assures the integrity of the insulation and air / weather-sealing procedures.
- By assembling the house inside of a factory, the structure is protected from repeated exposure to the elements, minimizing the possibility of mold and shrinkage problems.
- Modular construction minimizes disturbance at the site and reduces traffic to the construction site from months to weeks.
Building a modular home is an affordable way to realize your goal of owning a high-quality green home.
